We are currently booking students into our COVID vaccine appointments at our main site Porter Brook Medical Centre, 9 Sunderland Street Sheffield S11 8HN. These can be for either your first or second vaccine. If you receive a text about your vaccine inviting you to Porter Brook Medical Centre please take the offer and get booked in. Our clinics are being held Wednesday afternoon from 1 pm to 5 pm for the next few weeks.
You can also book through the national booking system via the NHS app - you can get this free app by visiting www.nhs.uk/nhs-app/ Please note bookings made through the national booking system will be done at a different venue not our Porter Brook Medical Centre site.
Once you have the NHS app you will be able to also order your repeat medication, access your medical records, see some test results, book appointments as well as book your COVID vaccine.
*COVID BOOSTER AND ADULT FLU CLINIC - 16th October 2021

- If you meet the criteria for one of the *'at risk' groups for a COVID booster and it is over 6 months since you had your 2nd vaccination we will be contacting you to invite you to have your booster at the surgery. Please note, it is appointment only and not a ‘drop in’ clinic
- Please note: it has to be 6 months since your 2nd dose to be eligible for a COVID booster. We are unable to book you in before this as our invites are specifically for those who are eligible.
- If you are eligible for a COVID booster, we will aim to give you a flu jab at the same time on the 16th October 2021. Please note if you have your flu jab elsewhere you cannot have a COVID booster for 7 days afterwards. You may need to book your COVID booster through the national booking system. Please ring 119 for more information or download the NHS App at www.nhs.uk/nhs-app/
Student health at SHU is committed to keeping our surgery safe to protect sick and vulnerable patients & staff from the risk of COVID-19. We ask that after the 19th of July patients continue to wear face masks and socially distance in our surgery, unless medically exempt.
We are still having some difficulties with the phone lines at our main site (Porter Brook Medical Centre Tel 0114 2636100). This is because we are moving over to the new phone system. When you call the main site you will be instructed to press '0' as the line is out of order. Please follow this instruction as this will connect you to the surgery. This is a temporary fault.
Apologies for the inconvenience this may cause or has caused over the last week or so. This fault should be resolved on Monday 4th October 2021 when the new system is fully installed.
You will need to have completed the registration form prior to you getting an appointment. We will also require some form on photo ID when we first see you to confirm your registration.

Change of Address

CHANGES TO ORDERING YOUR REPEAT PRESCRIPTIONS
From the 1st October 2021 the Prescription Order Line run by the Sheffield CCG closed. This will mean you will now need to order your repeat medication using one of the following methods:
Call the surgery on 0114 26362100 and select OPTION 2 - the line is open 10 am - 12 noon and 2 pm to 4 pm Monday to Friday
Use Systemonline services to order your repeat medication - you can sign up for this at Reception
Use the NHS App
Send your paper request to Reception either by post or dropping it in at the surgery
Please allow two full working days before you collect your repeat prescription

Coronavirus – Tool kit and updates
We would like to thank everyone for following the advice of the government by Isolating where necessary and ensuring the safety of yourself and others. This has positive benefits for the NHS as a whole and ensures that for as long as we can the care and services we offer can continue.
That being said, Isolation can have its own challenges and we would like to offer as much help as we can – directly and through our network. Below is information that many will find helpful during this time and links to services you are encouraged to use.
What we did:
Closed the doors to the public – This action was taken a few weeks ago to limit the potential infection that people coming to the surgery may bring. Don’t worry though there are still staff inside! We are now working to a telephone only consultation system where if you contact us you will be dealt with firstly over the phone and if the Dr decides that it is important you are seen you may be invited to a face to face appointment.
Online appointment booking – we have temporarily stopped online bookings so our staff can safely triage patients before they come to the practice. For your and our safety we will need to speak to you first before an appointment is made.
Telephone and video consultations – We have started to roll out video consultations so when you are at home you can still speak to someone face-to-face. If the Doctor feels it is appropriate they will suggest a video consultation.
Prescriptions – Even though we are closed to the public walking in, we are still working as hard as we can. This means that you can still order your prescriptions and get the medication you need during this time. You are advised to call the Prescription Order Line on 0114 372 3000 to order your prescription. PLEASE BE ADVISED: We are asking patients not to over order medication during this time and that the Prescription Order Line may be busy when you call.
Non COVID medical problems – We are still here to help you with any new or ongoing conditions or problems, not just COVID related problems. If you feel you need to speak to a Doctor or that we can help you please do not hesitate to call us on 0114 225 2134.
IAPT - Update 15th May
The Sheffield IAPT service is still continuing to offer the same level of treatment for people with depression and the range of anxiety disorders however they will be seeing patients in a slightly different way.
Appointments will be via telephone or video call and you can continue to access their services by calling 0114 2264380 or completing an online self-referral form via their website https://iaptsheffield.shsc.nhs.uk/

All patients registered with the practice can be seen at Porter Brook (9 Sunderland Street Sheffield S11 8HN) but our site at the City Campus is only available to students of SHU.
Our mission is to provide a high-quality, accessible service to patients in a welcoming environment where patients and staff feel respected and valued.

Named Accountable GP for all Patients
A new Government scheme now requires every patient to be allocated a Named GP who is responsible for patients’ overall care at the practice. The allocation of a Named GP for ALL Patients has now been completed. If you would like to find out which GP you have been allocated, please enquire the next time you are in the surgery.
As a patient, you will still be able to book an appointment with any GP at the surgery. You also have the right to request a change to your allocated GP if you have a preferred choice GP. The practice will make reasonable efforts to accommodate this request.
Online Services Information
GP online services allow you to access a range of services via your computer, mobile or tablet. Once you have signed up, you will be able to:
- book or cancel appointments online
- renew or order repeat prescriptions online
- view parts of your GP record, including information about medication, allergies, vaccinations, previous illnesses and test results
You can still contact the practice by phone or in person, this is just another option, which other patients have found is more convenient and saves them time. More information including “how to” leaflets and videos of patients and why they are using GP online services are available at www.nhs.uk/gponlineservices
How to sign-up
For more information, please contact reception or next time you visit the surgery, bring with you a piece of photo ID (passport, driving licence) and something with your address on like a bank statement but not a gas or electric bill. If you don’t have these, please talk to us and we will help you sign-up
