Welcome to Porter Brook Medical Centre & Student Health at SHU

Our dedicated practice team consists of doctors, nurse practitioners, nurses, health practitioners, nurse associates, pharmacists, health care assistants, attached health care professionals, officers, administrative staff and receptionists. Together, we provide a full range of general medical services. All patients registered with the practice can be seen at Porter Brook but our site at the City Campus is only available to students of SHU.

Our mission is to provide a high-quality, accessible service to patients in a welcoming environment where patients and staff feel respected and valued.

Of course, we’re not just here for when you are unwell. Our team of healthcare professionals and back-up staff offer several clinics and services to promote good health and wellbeing whatever your medical condition.

Infection Prevention and Control Statement 2024

Porter Brook GP practice takes the prevention and control of infection seriously.

In line with government guidance, the practice has an infection Prevention and Control (IPC) Lead Amie Kay that is responsible for the IPC in the practice.

For IPC questions or concerns please contact this staff member or alternatively the practice manager.

New Phone System!

We are excited to announce the launch of our new phone system!

This upgrade provides us with greater flexibility and analytics, helping us better manage our call queues.

Patients will notice new messages and options when calling. We kindly ask that you listen to the full range of options before making a selection.

One of the main changes is the introduction of a callback function. This feature allows patients to keep their place in the queue without staying on hold. By choosing this option, you can hang up, and we will call you back when it's your turn in the queue

DNAs

A DNA is someone who DID NOT ATTEND an appointment at the surgery and did not tell us beforehand so we could cancel the appointment and offer it to another patient.

In the past 7 days, we've had 83 patients who have not attended their appointment. This has equated to approximately 21 wasted clinical and non-clinical hours.

DNAs are a problem for the NHS and research shows that across the UK around 13 million GP appointments and 6 million practice nurse appointments are missed each year.

Please ensure you contact our reception team and cancel your appointment if you are no longer able to attend.
